September 17th is Constitution Day – What is Your Child’s School Doing About It??
Details
Tucked within Public Law 108-447’s 3,000 pages which was signed into law in 2004 was an education advisory which states:
Sec. 111. (b) Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.
The law also provided that the designation of September 17 be changed from Citizenship Day to “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.” In addition, the Congress by Joint Resolution designated September 17 as “Constitution Day” and the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as “Constitution Week.”
It’s apparent many of our elected officials – on all levels – haven’t read this founding document either! Remember Speaker Nancy Pelosi when she was asked after the passage of Obamacare, “where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?” Her infamous answer was “Are you serious? Are you serious?”
Many more examples abound, which highlights just how important learning what the Constitution actually says is necessary for the next generation!
