Issue
Attaching the SAVE Act to the Spending Bill
Details
One week ago today, we remembered what happened in 2001: The Twin Towers in New York City were gone; a plane penetrating the Pentagon’s side and a plane with all on board forced into the ground in a field in Shanksville, PA by the heroic actions of the passengers after they realized their flight was being diverted to become the next “guided missile” aimed at the terrorists’ next target. The end result of this terrorist attack on America: the loss of 3,000 Americans in one day.
Today America is under attack in another way — an illegal alien invasion on our southern, and increasingly our northern, borders. The current administration has opened our borders to thousands of illegal aliens for the purpose of . . . .
This from a September 3rd article written by US Representative Chip Roy (R-TX – 21): “After three years of importing millions of illegal aliens under President Joe Biden and “Border Czar” Kamala Harris’s open-border regime, I’m hearing fears from my own constituents as well as from people across the country that non-citizens and illegal aliens might vote and sway the outcome of the 2024 election. Meanwhile, the threat of a destructive post-election lame duck session that will empower Democrats and pave the way for all manner of legislative sins looms ahead.
Republicans can use the September 30 funding deadline to tackle both of these issues by attaching the SAVE Act to a funding extension into 2025.
Doing so forces Democrats to answer a simple question: “Do you support requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, or do you support non-citizens illegally voting?” It also prevents the uniparty from using the lame duck to pass another cap-busting omnibus spending bill that solidifies the Democrats’ radical agenda through the beginning of a potential Trump administration.”
It’s against the law for non-citizens to vote in the United States. That’s what the law says, but there is no requirement to prove citizenship when you register to vote. The SAVE Act would change that! Remember HR 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act passed in the US House on July 10th by a vote of 221-198 with all Republicans and five Democrats (none from PA; Dwight Evans did not vote) voting for it.
Not surprisingly, Senator Chuck Schumer has not brought it to the floor of the Senate for a vote. So, Representative Roy is proposing the tactic mentioned above in his article – attach the SAVE Act to one of the spending bills, thus forcing the Senate to consider it.
Action Steps
House Speaker Mike Johnson had planned a vote on the six-month continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached last Wednesday, but pulled it because he did not have enough votes. He said at that time, “And I want any member of Congress, in either party, to explain to the American people why we should not ensure that only U.S. citizens are voting in U.S. elections”. The current plan is to bring the bill up for a vote TODAY!
Let your US Representative and Senators Bob Casey, Jr. and John Fetterman know you support this effort to attach the SAVE Act to the proposed six-month funding extension into 2025. Proof of citizenship in order to register to vote is a logical requirement in order to prevent illegal aliens from voting in our upcoming elections. Waiting until December to pass an omnibus bill (all 12 spending bills rolled into one!) would give a lame duck Congress an opportunity to hamstring the next President. Click here to contact them.
