Budget Update:  While Our Evening Was Winding Down Last Night . . .

Details

. . .the State House passed a bill that would provide funding for state-related universities for the next fiscal year!  Senator Patrick Browne had introduced SB 1284 on June 13 and it was quickly approved in the Senate (49-0) by June 20th.   Last night the State House passed an amended SB 1284.  This from “Under the Dome”:  “The state House on Wednesday night approved a pair of measures that would create a path for the state to continue funding the University of Pittsburgh despite conservative objections to research using fetal tissue. Senate Bill 1284, providing the state-related funding absent the fetal tissue research ban, passed 145-55 – with all of the opposition coming from Republicans, but with enough support to get the two-thirds supermajority required for non-preferred funding bills.”

Here’s the link to the final vote in the House.

The bill was amended before the State House vote last night, so it has to go back to the State Senate for a final vote.
