Issue
Constitution Day 2024
Details
If you have a child or grandchild is in school, ask them if they learned anything about the US Constitution today. If they didn’t, well, this says it all:
Deep inside the 2004 Consolidated Appropriations Bill, which would become Public Law 108-447, we find this verbiage:
SEC. 111. (a) The head of each Federal agency or department shall-
(1) provide each new employee of the agency or department with educational and training materials concerning the United States Constitution as part of the orientation materials provided to the new employee; and
(2) provide educational and training materials concerning the United States Constitution to each employee of the agency or department on September 17 of each year.
(3) Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.
Will the US Department of Education threaten to withhold federal funds from any educational institution which does not teach about the US Constitution today? Don’t hold your breath; they are more interested in threatening schools that don’t allow boys into girls’ private spaces and on their sports teams!!
A refresher history lesson:
The United States Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. This was our second attempt at a national governing document. The 1777 Articles of Confederation, which went into effect in 1781, quickly proved to be inadequate. In 1786 the Annapolis Convention called for a group to assemble to address the many weaknesses. After months of contentious debate the US Constitution was introduced to the citizens of the United States.
Liberals say it’s too old to be relevant today and needs to be updated or rewritten to deal with today’s modern society and issues! But when you read through the document, it is clear that what was signed in September 1787 still lays the pathway for a commonsense government that would allow citizens to succeed. Unfortunately, the limited powers given to the federal government in the Constitution are being ignored and we now live in an administrative state run by bureaucracies that want to control our lives!
Action Steps
Take time to read the US Constitution today. It is not a long document and if Congress would simply adhere to it and judges would read it, we would not see our freedoms being eroded as they are today! Especially check out Article I, Section 8, which lists the limited powers given to Congress!
