Senator Toomey Seems Confused!
Details
Last week Senator Pat Toomey announced his opposition to confirming, or even holding hearings on, any Supreme Court nominee that President Obama should name. We faxed him a thank you note and asked you to thank him for that statement. However, it has come to our attention that he DOES NOT have a problem with advancing at least two other Obama nominees to federal district courts here in PA! He sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on February 19th asking him to promptly hold hearings and advance the nominees to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Click here to read the letter. He also brags that Pennsylvania trails only two states—California and New York—for the most judicial confirmations over the last five years with 16. He said the “bipartisan process” he’s developed with Pennsylvania’s Democrat senator, Bob Casey, has “proven highly effective.”
The two nominees that Toomey wants advanced are Court of Common Pleas for Allegheny County Judge Robert Coville for the Western District of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Common Pleas Judge John Younge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Here are the problems — besides Toomey being willing to partner with Senator Bob Casey, Jr. and advance two more Obama judges in addition to the 16 that have already been confirmed for Pennsylvania:
