Sixteen Year Olds Voting for School Board
Details
Democrat State Representatives Chris Pielli and John Inglis III co-sponsorship memo says in part, “No one deals with the repercussions of Pennsylvania school board decisions more than students themselves. . . . Pennsylvania students deserve to have a greater voice in how their own school system is run and who runs it. That is why we are introducing legislation to lower the voting age for school board elections to 16 years of age.”
In recent years Democrats in the General Assembly have regularly introduced bills to allow 16 and 17 year-olds to pre-register to vote. So, is this another tactic they are using? How many 16 and 17 year-olds that you know are mature enough to vote? Just what would a school district look like if the board was voted in by 16 and 17 year-olds? The co-sponsorship memo also notes that California, Maryland, Vermont, and New Jersey already have implemented this strategy. Well, we see what prime examples the majority of those school districts are!
