Still Pushing Transgenders in the Military

Details

Liberal Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2018 –H.R. 2810– (NDAA) that would have undermined President Trump’s  August 25th directive — “Military Service by Transgender Individuals.”  This directive simply moves military policy back to pre-June 2016,  when the Obama administration sought to open all branches of the military to those who identify as transgender.

The Gillibrand/Collins amendment would have unreasonably delayed any action until 60 days after Defense Secretary Mattis finalizes his work and submitted a report to Congress.   Their amendment never made it to the Senate floor for a vote, so they’ve changed their tactics!

Collins and Gillibrand have been joined by Arizona Senator John McCain and Rhode Island Democrat Senator Jack Reed to offer a stand-alone bill which has the same language as the Gillibrand/Collins Amendment to the NDAA.

Action Steps

Contact Senators Bob Casey, Jr. and Pat Toomey and ask them to vote ‘Nay’ on this new Gillibrand/Collins/Reed/McCain bill  — S 1820 — ” A bill to provide for the retention and service of transgender members of the Armed Forces.”
