AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

March 7, 2019

Issue

Petitions Opposing Access Matters in School Due Today  – Online Petitions Still Available

Details

If you have any paper petitions opposing Planned Parenthood partner AccessMatters setting up “health resource centers” in the county’s high schools, please mail them in ASAP to AFA of PA, P.O. Box 1048, Franklin, PA   16323.  The deadline is today, but we’ll accept them up until March 23rd.    Even though Valley Grove and Oil City school boards have said ‘no,’ the petitions will still be delivered as a way of saying “The ones who have signed these petitions oppose AccessMatters establishing “health resource centers” in the high school and they want to say ‘thank you for saying ‘no’ to these centers.’”  All petitions will be delivered on March 25th.  You can still sign the petitions online.  See below

This is what we know:  Planned Parenthood Partner AccessMatters wants to establish ‘health resource centers/clinics’ in Venango County high schools.   What we know:   1.)   AccessMatters was formerly known as Family Planning Council.  2) They are financially supported by Planned Parenthood. 3.) Their goal is to increase access to “sexual and reproductive health” – meaning contraception, chemical or surgical abortion and condoms.  4.) The clinics function as confidential drop-in centers at the schools — meaning parents will not be informed as to what was discussed or distributed to their child.   5.) The counselors at the clinics are trained by AccessMatters.

At this point, Cranberry Area school board has not been approached about establishing the ‘health resource centers.’    Franklin Area school board voted ‘yes’ in December, but the big question is have they actually signed a contract yet???

Action Steps

Even though the paper petitions are due, you can still sign online.  Feel free to forward this alert to others in Venango County.  Remember you do not have to have children in the school district, but just live there.
