Word from Dr. Scott Lively from Springfield, MA: Two days ago a Marxist group called Arise for Social Justice (an Acorn affiliate, I believe) placed a large advertisement in the Springfield Republican newspaper attacking me and our church, Holy Grounds Coffee House. One of our church members confirmed that Arise was responsible for this ad, and was told that Arise has made its mission to drive our ministry, and me personally, out of Springfield.

Action Alert: Will DOMA Repeal Be Attached to Defense Bill?

Word out of Washington, DC indicate that Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Dianne Feinstein, sponsor of S 598, will attach it to the Defense Authorization Act. This is the annual bill which funds our military! Remember S598 is the bill which would overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It was just voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee along party lines last Thursday and now liberal Democrats are trying to attach it to a must pass bill.

News Release -FBI Hate Crimes Stats Again Prove Homosexuals Are Not Targeted

On Monday the FBI released their 2010 Hate Crimes Statistics noting that the number of hate crime incidences is holding steady when comparing the 6,604 incidents in 2009 to 6,624 in 2010. And as in the past the numbers revealed that nationally you are more likely to be the victim of a hate crime if you are black or religious (Jewish being the most dangerous at 887 incidences of hate crimes out of 1,322) than if you identify as homosexual. Of the 6,624 single bias incidents, 47.3 percent were motivated by a racial bias, 20.0 percent were motivated by a religious bias, 19.3 percent were motivated by a sexual orientation bias.

Action Alert: Will Toomey and Casey Support DOMA?

Senator Dianne Feinstein’s S598 is not a bill that respects marriage, but rather one that would throw out the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It is on the Senate Judiciary Committee calendar for a vote during their Executive Business Meeting beginning at 10:00 a.m. today. If it is voted out of committee, it will then go before the entire Senate for a vote. No Pennsylvanians are on the committee, but the majority Democrats are all very liberal and support the bill so there is a very good chance it will be voted out.

Statement on the Firing of Graham Spanier and Joe Paterno

Tonight the Penn State Board of Trustees did the right thing in unanimously voting to fire President Graham Spanier and Coach Joe Paterno. But at least three questions remain: 1.) What will the Board do about Athletic Director Tim Curley who is on administrative leave? 2.) Will the school continue paying the legal fees for Curley and Gary Schultz, whose job description included oversight of the campus police? 3.) In their search for a new president, will the board heed warnings such as those that were registered with them in 1995 as they were on the verge of hiring Graham Spanier?
