Senator Casey Wrong to Vote for Radical Judicial Nominee
(Harrisburg) Today Pennsylvania’s “pro-life” Senator Bob Casey, Jr. voted for cloture on the nomination of radical Goodwin Liu for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, is appalled that Senator Casey would support such an outrageous nominee.
“Increasingly questions of Bob Casey, Jr.’s pro-life, pro-family credentials are being raised by those who uphold traditional values. How can anyone who calls himself pro-family support a nominee so out of touch with the rest of America?” questioned Diane Gramley, President of the AFA of PA.
Some of Liu’s outlandish positions include:
- Liu believes the judicial function properly seeks “an awareness of the evolving norms and social understandings of our country.”
- Liu affirmatively inserted himself into the “Gay Marriage” political and judicial proceedings in California by submitting an amicus brief in favor of gay marriage and calling the majority of California voters a “narrow and ultimately temporary majority.”
- Liu would create a constitutional right to welfare. Liu believes: “judicial recognition of welfare rights depends on socially situated modes of reasoning …. [J]udicial recognition of welfare rights is best conceived as an act of interpreting the shared understandings of particular welfare goods ….”
- Liu is So Soft on Crime He is Opposed by a Bi-Partisan Majority (42 of 58) of CA D.A.s. The D.A.s cite: “[Liu’s] views on criminal law, capital punishment, and the role of the federal courts … [as cause for] the Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to reject this nomination.”
- Liu Would Deficit Spend on Education of Illegal Immigrants and Liu Labels Opponents Guilty of “Chauvinistic Nationalism.” Liu wrote: “We must be careful to ensure that the ideal of national citizenship does not infuse public education with nativism, cultural conformity, or chauvinistic nationalism. And we should not use the concept of citizenship to deny education to noncitizen[s] ….” (The Constitution in 2020,” Ed. Jack M. Balkin & Reva B. Siegel, 2009, at 130-31)
“Senator Casey needs to re-examine his positions on life and family; so far his term has proven to be anything but pro-family and pro-life. We are glad the cloture vote failed to garner the 60 votes needed, but Casey was on the wrong side of the debate,” concluded Gramley.
