Group Contacts Attorney General Asking For Investigation Into Porn Connection
(Harrisburg) — Last year in Pennsylvania there were 3400 substantiated cases of child abuse, more than half of those were child sexual abuse. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania, (AFA of PA) a pro-decency group which educates on the dangers of pornography, has contacted Attorney General Linda Kelly asking her to make the connection between pornography consumption and child sexual abuse.
“The Commonwealth is now figuring out how to better fund the 21 existing facilities and possibly to increase the number that help these young victims. Isn’t that like placing an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff to treat the person who has tumbled down the cliff rather than placing a barrier at the top to prevent the tragedy? There is a proven link between porn use, both adult and child porn, and child sexual assault,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
Statistics that were included in the fax to Attorney General Kelly:
1.) Kenneth. Lanning, a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent, had this to say about the use of adult pornography in the molestation of children in his booklet, “Child Molesters: A Behavior Analysis” (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 1-148, 2001):
Adult pornography is frequently left out for the child to “discover.” A collection of adult pornography is effective in sexually arousing and lowering the inhibitions of adolescent boys. This is the primary reason why preferential molesters collect adult pornography… Much of this process can take place online without even meeting in person. [At 57]
2.) C. Kim, “From fantasy to reality: The link between viewing child pornography and molesting children,” Child Sexual Exploitation UPDATE, American Prosecutors Research Institute, 2004, Vol. 1, No.3, available at: www.ndaa.org/
Child molesters use both adult pornography and child pornography in the grooming process, albeit for different purposes… Repeated exposure to both adult and child pornography is intended to diminish the child’s inhibitions and give the impression that sex between adults and children is normal, acceptable and enjoyable…
“We also encouraged the AG’s office to go to pornharms.org or pornharmsresearch.com for more in-depth information. At a minimum we are asking the Attorney General’s office to contact each municipality in Pennsylvania to encourage them to pass local zoning and licensing ordinances to regulate sexually oriented businesses. This would be a major step forward in protecting Pennsylvania’s children,” Gramley concluded.
