Cigarette Smokers Can Donate Blood, But Men Who Have Sex With Men Can’t – That Should Say Something to Policy Makers!
(Harrisburg) Today the Office of the Surgeon General released “How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease: The Biology and Behavioral Basis for Smoking-Attributable Disease.” The report notes that fear should not just be from lung cancer, but that the first puff on a cigarette sends over 7,000 chemicals to rapidly spread through the body to cause cellular damage in nearly every organ. However, the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, a statewide family values group, notes that smokers are permitted to donate blood, but a man who has had sex with another man – even once – cannot.
“Today’s report was the 30th issued since 1964, each warning about the dangers of exposure to cigarette smoke. It seems the Surgeon General is ignoring dangers for those who engage in homosexual sex especially men who have sex with men. It is safer to be a smoker than to be a homosexual man,” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA. She was referring to the Oxford University International Journal of Epidemiology study which found MSM shorten their lives between 8 and 20 years, while a smoker shortens his or her life six or seven years.
The Centers for Disease Control acknowledges that more than half of all new HIV infections each year are MSM. Additionally, they make up almost half of all people living with HIV. In the past, the CDC has also acknowledged that bisexual men are the bridge for HIV into the heterosexual community.
Because of the high prevalence of HIV infections and other diseases the FDA refuses to allow a man who’s had sex with another man even once since 1977 to give blood. The FDA has taken this extraordinary step because of the highly dangerous homosexual lifestyle and the need to protect the nation’s blood supply.
“It is commendable that the Surgeon General has spent so many of our tax dollars on 30 studies to outline the dangers of smoking, but it would do well if that office took some time to take a hard look at the more dangerous homosexual lifestyle and issue a report of those findings,” further commented Gramley.

You’ve got to be kidding about this one, more dangerous than smoking?, Are you from the 1800′s? This sounds like something someone would say about touching a black person, like it would rub off. I think your ignorance and prejudice are more dangerous to society. Your AFA has done more harm in moving Christ forward into the hearts of men and is more damaging than anything out there. You need to retreat from the hate that you are spewing and begin to show Christ’s love, leave the judging to the Judge.
It’s not homosexual lifestyle. It’s the aids virus we are talking about here. Stick to the facts.
Fact: smoking shortens one’s life by six to seven years.
Fact: for males engaged in homosexual acts lives are shortened between 8 and 20 years
Fact: both six and seven are smaller numbers than 8 or 20
Additional fact: “The Judge” has already made His statement on all sin including engaging in homosexual acts. He’s also made His statement by sending His Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sin. All we have to do is seek Him.
As Matt Foreman, former Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, noted in an address at the National Conference on Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender Equality in Detroit on February 8, 2008, “with 70 percent of the people in this country living with HIV being gay or bi(-sexual), we cannot deny that HIV is a gay disease. We have to own that and face up to that.”
Mr. Foreman was quoting statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, just as the AFA of PA does.
Is it more compassionate to validate a lifestyle that leads to so many unnecessary deaths or to warn of its dangers?
You people are biggoted morons. In Africa, AIDS is endemic almost entirely to the heterosexual population. Anyone who has visited Africa in the past 5 years cannot give blood, regardless of sexual orientation.
I remember seeing exactly this sort of repulsive garbage during the civil rights movement of the ’60s. You people should just creep slowly back nto the hole from whence you came.
To abraxas: In July 2009 a British study showed that gay men are more affected by the AIDS virus than the general adult population. The British medical journal The Lancet published a report entitled “Men who have sex with men and HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.” The study was conducted by researchers from Oxford University, under the supervision of Dr. Adrian D. Smith. Bisexuals are the bridge between the ‘gay’ community and heterosexuals. African countries which have promoted abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriage have seen drastic decreases in HIV/AIDS. The numbers speak for themselves — the homosexual lifestyle is more dangerous (shortened lives by up to 20 years) than smoking (shortened lives by up to 7 years).
There are no legitimate studies anywhere that do not confirm that the homosexual lifestyle is a very unhealthy lifestyle and for more reasons than merely the HIV infection and the AIDS virus. Homosexuals are more prone to emotional problems, at higher risk for other STD’s including Hepatitis, and suffer greater relationship instabilities. If you are interested in the facts you might investigate the CDC studies and those of the WHO along not to mention the American Psychological Assoocaition. Actually, one need only study history if one is in search of the truth which not surprisingly, most gays aren’t. Alot of spineless liberals and some conservatives will be bullied into going along with the perversity being unleashed in society today and refuse to speak out against the homosexual agenda lest they be called a bad name…….until THEIR kid says they are going gay. THEN it’s a whole other problem but as long as it is everybody elses’s kids it’s just peachy.
Everyone knows that the introduction of aids in this country was from homosexuals & bisexuals. God has a lot to say about this practice. It is not condoned by God to be gay or lesbian. This is why they cant give blood.
i do not know how many of the people who have commented are Christ’s followers but our call is to love them accept them and allow God to change the issues that offend him, not us. The church should embrace all and allow God to fix us, not barracade the door to those that God wants in. We all fall short in one way or another let us look at ourselves first love them not judge and allow their creator to judge
God Bless
We All know homosexuality is perverse. Our bodies were not made to hv organs of the same sex pushed into our rectoms. Man was made for woman n like other plagues down through the ages HIV/AIDS is Gods retribution to a failing world
This is a topic I try to avoid because I don’t want to sound like I am judging others. However, I personally do think it is wrong. It is in the bible for a reason. Maybe we don’t know exactly what the reason is & if you are Christian, you can’t deny this. Now many gay people say they are born this way. What does the bible say about that? I struggle with this question, but I think I have come to the conclusion that maybe it is still a choice, just like a drug addict has a choice & even though it is hard, if they are really trying to be Christians, they should work on not engaging in this behavior for the simple fact that God in the Christian bible says not to. If that means they do not have any sexual relationships while alive on earth, then maybe that is what God’s will is for them. I don’t think attacking people who are gay is the anwser though. Every single person is struggling with something and Jesus would not have us hurt another, Gay or not.
To D. Armstrong: Agreed the church should not barricade the doors to homosexuals. All sinners are in need of the Great Physician’s touch. The church must preach the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the need for a Savior, and the need to turn away from sin in response to accepting Christ as Savior. We must love the sinner but NOT the sin. That includes not permitting sinners (homosexual or others) to be in places of leadership/ministry in a church.
D Armstrong
How do you love someone and tell them they are going to hell at the same time?
I’ve always found that hard.
For if you really love them you will tell the truth won’t you?
How do you do it?
I think of Jesus and the woman at the well; he did not hesitate to warn her and tell of the living water. Jesus laid out what the rich young ruler had to do to follow him and the young man chose to return home instead. We have to be truthful – we readily warn of physical dangers, but the safety of the eternal soul is even more important than the physical body. Using Scripture to guide the conversation is best. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23a “…The wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23b “…But the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
