News Release: Montco Register of Wills on Wrong Side of History

The Montgomery County Register of Wills has said he’s willing to disobey the law and issue same-sex “marriage” licenses. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) has contacted Mr. Hanes to remind him that Pennsylvania law still defines marriage as only between one man and one woman and specifically asked him if he’d be willing to disobey the law and issue a marriage license to first cousins who were “in love.” This is also strictly forbidden in Pennsylvania’s law.

Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Kathleen Kane is refusing to defend our Defense of Marriage Act. Apparently the Commonwealth Attorneys Act gives her that option, although she may be stretching the interpretation of that law. Governor Corbett can appoint someone else to defend it, although at this point he has not.

Today Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced that she would not defend the commonwealth’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) against the ACLU lawsuit filed on Tuesday. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) is not surprised by this decision and believes if Kane had taken the case she would have done a lackluster job defending natural marriage.

As I’m sure you’ve heard, yesterday the ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This is something that the AFA of PA has warned about for years — without a Marriage Protection Amendment we are one lawsuit away from our DOMA being declared unconstitutional by an activist judge.

The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide defender of natural one man one woman marriage, has warned for years of the danger of not passing a Marriage Protection Amendment. Using the June 26th US Supreme Court 5-4 decision to toss Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act as a springboard, the ACLU has moved to challenge Pennsylvania’s own Defense of Marriage Act.
