News Release – Federal Judge’s Pine Richland Decision is Wrong

The school board of Pine Richland School District made a commonsense decision last September when they voted to require students to use either the restrooms that corresponds with their biological sex or use single-occupancy ‘unisex’ restrooms. Yesterday’s decision by a federal judge declaring the civil rights of three students who identify as transgender were violated is wrong and creates the potential risk of biological boys to similarly begin identifying as “transgender girls” in order to gain access to the private facilities of girls.

Blog Post – Two Presidents’ Birthdays

This month we celebrated the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln on the 12th and George Washington on the 22nd. The federal holiday honoring George Washington was originally implemented by an Act of Congress in 1879 for government offices in Washington and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices. It was always celebrated on his birthday — February 22nd. On January 1, 1971 when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act went into effect, the celebration rarely fell on Washington’s actual birthday. An early draft of this law would have renamed the holiday “Presidents’ Day” to honor the birthdays of both Washington and Lincoln, but that failed in committee. Advertisers in the mid-1980’s began the push to use the term “Presidents’ Day” and it first appeared in print during this time.

News Release – Arrest of Hazleton Man Points to Danger of Gender Identity Laws

Yesterday a Hazleton man turned himself into the police after allegedly filming women and children in the women’s restroom at his place of employment. This situation raises several issues including the danger of adding “gender identity or expression” to Pennsylvania’s anti-discrimination law — the Human Relations Act. For years the American Family Association (AFA of PA), a statewide pro-decency organization, has condemned the addition of such language.
