The SAVE America Act
Details
During Tuesday night’s State of the Union address President Trump asked Congress to pass the SAVE America Act. We hear a lot about the SAVE Act, but the SAVE America Act is a MUCH stronger bill.
The SAVE Act passed in the US House in April 2025 with all Republicans voting ‘yea’ and all but four Democrats (none from PA) voting ‘nay. The Senate has taken no action on it.
Now, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE America Act – HR 7296 – has been introduced by US Rep Chip Roy (R-TX). It would
- require proof of citizenship for new voter registrations
- mandate photo IDs for voting in person or obtaining mail-in ballots
- strengthen voter roll maintenance
- tie some exemptions to states’ cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security.
Earlier this month the SAVE America Act passed in the US House by a vote of 218-213, with Republicans unanimously voting in favor and being joined by one lone Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas.
What is the issue??? It is obvious the American people want this law passed! A Pew Research poll last August found that 83 percent of Americans favor photo voter IDs, including 95 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of Democrats. More than 75 percent of blacks favor it, along with 82 percent of Latinos and 85 percent of whites.
