As was anticipated, House Democrats attached HB 300 to another bill as an amendment. HB 300, the misnamed Fairness Act, reached the House floor after being attached to House Bill 2103, which would ban white supremacist housing developments. The vote on April 27th was 101 to 100 – all GOP voted ‘nay’, the lone Democrat to vote ‘nay’ was Frank Burns from Cambria County. It will now go to the State Senate, where it will die – hopefully! Remember this bill will add ‘actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity, to the PA Human Relations Act which impacts employment, housing and public accommodations.
Action Steps:
Just in case, your senator is not paying attention to the amendments to HB 2103, please contact your senator and tell him or her to strip the HB 300 amendment from the bill! If that can’t be done, then ask him or her to vote ‘nay.’
