HHS Moves to Clarify After Pennsylvania Abortion Funding Controversy
(Harrisburg) — The day after close examination of the contract between the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) revealed the door was open for taxpayer funded abortion, HHS issued a statement saying that its guidelines will make sure Hyde amendment restrictions also apply to the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans or high risk insurance pools. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide pro-life group, remains concerned as to what else will be revealed as the over 2,000 page ‘health care reform’ law begins to take affect.
“The AFA of PA joins the majority of Americans in opposing the socialization of our health care system. The Democrats in control of the House, Senate and White House are determined to destroy the greatest health care system in the world . . . just ask the Canadians who come here for their health care,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of HHS has emphasized the high-risk pool program is a federal program and the states will not incur any costs. On May 11th she wrote in a letter to Democratic and Republican congressional leaders saying, “states may choose whether and how they participate in the program, which is funded entirely by the federal government.” Isn’t this the definition of socialized medicine?
“The happenings this week fully characterize the vigilance that must be maintained as this health care takeover begins. The AFA of PA continues to assert that the President’s executive order is not worth the paper it is written on,” Gramley stated.
Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) has offered a bill called the Protect Life Act (HR 5111), which would apply the Stupak-Pitts language to health care reform. However Representative Stupak does not support the bill continuing to maintain the executive order is all that is necessary.
As more government commissions and boards are put into place to administer the health care law and restrict America’s access to quality health care, the ire of the average American will increase not decrease.
