Ask Senators Casey and Toomey to Oppose Lynch’s Nomination for Attorney General
Details
In November President Obama nominated Loretta Lynch, the US attorney in Brooklyn, to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder.
Here are some problems with her nomination:
1.) During her confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lynch echoed the administration’s argument that the Department of Homeland Security is not able to deport all of the people in the country illegally, so it should prioritize categories like criminals and remove the threat of deportation from others. That justification “seemed to be a reasonable way to marshal limited resources,” Lynch said.
2.) Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley questioned Lynch about the lack of charges being leveled at HSBC when she found the corporation had laundered “at least $881 million in drug trafficking proceeds.” Read Lynch responses to Grassley follow up 1-18 for more details.
3.) In 2006 Lynch took part in filing an amicus brief in support of Planned Parenthood in the Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General v. Planned Parenthood Federation of America case and in support of Leroy Carhart in Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General v. Leroy Carhart case.
