Religious Freedom Day – Ask Your Senators to Confirm Sam Brownback

Details

No, Religious Freedom Day is not a federal or state holiday, but it is celebrated annually in America to commemorate the 1786 passage of Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom.  Yes, that Jefferson that those trying to rewrite American history claim was a secularist.  To cement the rights of religious conscience that Jefferson and other Founding Fathers believed in, they included that right in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Read US Attorney General Jeff Sessions’  Religious Freedom Day Proclamation to see what three accomplishments Jefferson was most proud of that he had listed on his tombstone.  They’ll probably surprise you!   You can read the proclamation here

Action Steps

On this Religious Freedom Day, it would be a good time to contact Senator Bob Casey, Jr. and Senator Pat Toomey and ask them to support President Trump’s nominee, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, to be the next Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.  The person in this position runs the State Department’s office which promotes religious freedom through foreign policy. President Trump nominated him last July, but the Senate did not act upon the nomination before the end of the year, so the President re-nominated him last week.  Contact Senators Casey and Toomey here
