Democrats Want to Put Abortion in the PA Constitution!
Details
PA House Democrats have a vote on HB 1957 – the “Reproductive Rights Amendment” – on their legislative calendar for next week. This is one of their responses to the US Supreme Court’s Dobb’s decision leaving the abortion issue in the hands of the states. The co-sponsorship memo says in part, “This amendment will reaffirm and protect every Pennsylvanian’s right to privacy and ensure that the state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate personal decisions.” It also refers to abortion as a “constitutional right”! The Democrats want to add abortion to Article 1 — “Declaration of Rights” — of the PA Constitution. Their goal is to create a Section 30. Click here to read the proposed amendment.
The House Judiciary Committee vote was 14-12, with all Democrats voting ‘yea’ and all Republicans voting ‘nay’. Click here to see who is on that committee.
This bill would erase nearly all PA’s pro-life laws, enshrine abortion in the PA Constitution and make abortion up to the moment of birth legal!
