End the US Department of Education
Details:
President Trump has indicated he will sign an executive order to dismantle the US Department of Education. Recently President Trump signed a school choice executive order. The October 17, 1979 Department of Education Organization Act signed by President Jimmy Carter split the Department of Health, Education and Welfare into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services.
As we’ve seen in the last two Democrat administrations, they will use the US Department of Education to push the LGBTQ agenda and gender ideology on the nation’s schools. Last year many of us fought to stop the attempt to change the definition of sex to include sexual orientation and gender identity in Title IX. Thankfully the November 5th election turned out the way it did or our school districts that chose not to make the changes would face the ire of the US Department of Education (USDOE)!
President Trump can sign an executive order to dismantle the USDOE, but it would take an act of Congress to totally dismantle it and place the education of the nation’s children back into the hands of the states. Let’s face it: our school children did much better academically before the formation of the USDOE! The recent NAEP scores show that fewer than 40% of kids on average can do math at grade level, and fewer than 30% can read at grade level.
Action Steps:
President Trump’s executive order would get the process of eliminating the Department of Education started, but Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced HR 899 which calls for the termination of the US Department of Education by December 31, 2026.
