How Did Your Congressman and Senators Vote on the Omnibus?

Details

Earlier today by a vote of 316-113 the House passed the Omnibus bill. All PA Democrat House members voted ‘Yea’ and unfortunately so did six PA Republicans — Ryan Costello (6th), Charlie Dent (15th), Michael Fitzpatrick (8th), Tim Murphy (18th), Joe Pitts (16th) and Glenn GT Thompson (5th).

In the Senate, Casey and Toomey cancelled each other out — with Casey voting ‘Yes” and Toomey voting “No.”

Some good — mostly bad!

  • Increases defense and non-defense spending above the caps set in 2011
  • places a two-year moratorium on two key pieces of ObamaCare: the “Cadillac tax” on expensive health plans and the medical device tax. It also freezes the premium tax on health insurers for one year
  • reduces revenue for Obamacare by $35 billion
  • makes permanent three core elements of Obama’s 2009 fiscal stimulus — expansions of the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit and the American Opportunity Tax Credit for college tuition
  • makes permanent several tax breaks for businesses including research and development tax credit and Section 179 small-business expense deduction
  • lifts the ban on oil exports
  • gives a five year extension of wind and solar tax breaks
  • does not roll back an of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act
  • does not limit the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate carbon emissions
  • removed the limit on coordination between political parties and candidates
  • blocked the administration from moving ahead with campaign finance regulations by stopping the Securities and Exchange Commission from requiring corporations to disclose their political giving and the IRS from issuing new rules governing the activity of 501 (c)(4) groups
