Senate to Vote on Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act
Details
The US Senate is poised to vote on HR 36 – the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The primary sponsor of the bill is Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ). It passed in the house on May 13 by a vote of 242-184.
If passed, this bill would “amend the federal criminal code to prohibit any person from performing or attempting to perform an abortion except in conformity with this Act’s requirements.” It ” (P)rohibits an abortion from being performed if the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or greater,” with exceptions for life of the mother or rape.
To put this whole issue in prospective — more than 18,000 very late term abortions are performed every y ear on perfectly healthy unborn babies in the US.
