Today is Constitution Day!

Details

Four months of often heated debate behind closed doors and windows, through the Philadelphia heat and humidity, the US Constitution emerged on September 17, 1787 with the signatures of 39 of the 55 delegates.  This happened shortly after Benjamin Franklin had called for opening each meeting in prayer noting that the longer he lived the more he witnessed God intervening in the affairs of men.   There’s no record that the prayers were offered at the meetings, but the end result definitely shows someone was praying and the hand of God was upon that gathering and the writing of our Constitution!

Wallbuilders gives the background:

“The Articles of Confederation had served as America’s “first constitution.” The Convention was originally called only to strengthen that weaker compact. But George Washington and others feared the young nation was on the brink of collapse. What the country needed was a more durable charter—one that would balance the authority of the States with a capable national government.”

Action Steps:

Take time to read the US Constitution today.  Here’s the link     Especially check out Article I, Section 8, which lists the limited powers given to Congress!

Contact your US Senator and US Representative and encourage them to read the US Constitution too!  They may never have read the document they took an oath to uphold!!
