Update on Bathroom Bills
Details
On Monday over 4,000 petitions were delivered to House Speaker Turzai, House Majority Leader Dave Reed, Senate Pro-Temp Joe Scarnati and Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman. AFA Action of PA met Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance at the Capitol. They had another 4,000 petitions . . . . so we delivered over 8,000 petitions to each of those four leaders in the Capitol!! When you drop two cases of petitions on a legislator’s desk, they tend to take notice! These petitions, of course, were in opposition to the misnamed PA Fairness Act which would add “sexual orientation and gender identity or expression” to the PA Human Relations Act which impacts employment, housing and public accommodations and opening women’s bathrooms, locker and shower rooms to biological men.
As you know, in the State House a Discharge Resolution has been filed to try and force HB 1510 out of the House State Government Committee. All it would take is a simple majority to bypass the normal legislative process and advance the bill directly to the House floor. An anticipated vote this week did not happen! In the State Senate, SB 934 has now been split into two more bills. Senator Pat Browne (R-Allentown) has introduced SB 1306 and SB 1307. SB 1306 is currently in the Labor and Industry Committee chaired by Senator Lisa Baker and vice-chaired by Senator Scott Wagner (a BIG proponent of the bill!). SB 1307 has been referred to the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee chaired by Scott Wagner.
An anticipated Wednesday vote in the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee on SB 1307 did not take place either! In fact, the entire committee meeting was cancelled!!
So, we have temporary victories at this point. However, this weekend homosexual activists with their liberal Republican allies like Scott Wagner and the Democrats will be regrouping. So, we have to keep the pressure on!
