Update on Energy Bill with Anti Christian Amendment

Details

Yesterday the US House once again held a vote on the Energy Appropriations bill (HB 5055).  This time there was an entirely different result!  The overall bill with Representative Maloney’s amendment failed by a vote of 112 to 305!  It is reported that once word got out that 43 Republicans had voted for the Maloney Amendment to deny Christian organizations, such as the Salvation Army, the ability to participate in government contracting unless they changed their policies to include ‘sexual orientation and gender identity,’ the phones were ringing off the hook demanding the overall bill be stopped . . .  and it was for now.

It should be noted here that it was killed by both sides — Democrats didn’t like the language of Representative Bradley Byrne’s amendment which simply reiterated existing religious liberty protections and Republicans didn’t like the Maloney amendment.  Of special note:  PA Representative Charlie Dent (R-15) was one of seven Republicans who voted against the Byrne amendment!

In the end even openly homosexual Representative Maloney (D-NY), who introduced Wednesday’s amendment,  voted against the overall bill.   Nancy Pelosi is blaming the Republicans for voting down the energy appropriations bill, but she voted against it too and she fails to acknowledge a larger percentage of Democrats voted against the overall bill than Republicans.
