Vote on So-Called Respect for Marriage Act Now Scheduled for Today

As you know, the US Senate passed HR 8404, the so-called Respect for Marriage Act, without allowing a strong religious protection amendment to be added. As Liberty Counsel notes: “The Baldwin-Collins amendment does nothing to protect the religious liberty of individuals or anyone not working at an institution ‘whose principal purpose is the study, practice, or advancement of religion.’ In other words, HR 8404 was drafted to target and disparage your faith.” Strong amendments offered by Senators Lee, Lankford and Rubio were rejected by the Senate. Now, the US House has rejected similar strong religious protection amendments because they know allowing such to be added will require the amended bill to be sent back to the Senate for another vote. The Democrats are not willing to take the chance it will not pass in the Senate a second time.
Nancy Pelosi has now scheduled a vote for later today. This bill is the same language that does nothing to protect religious liberty and is meant to force all Americans to ‘celebrate’ so-called same-sex marriage or suffer the full weight of the federal government coming down on them.
