Effort to Repeal Law Banning Homosexuals in the Military Continues

Details

The Lame Duck Democrats, many of whom lost their jobs on November 2nd, continue their assault on our military!  Their effort in conducting this social experiment on our military is outrageous.  It has taken priority over tax cuts, funding our military and funding our government as a whole.  Not one omnibus spending bill was passed by the end of the fiscal year – September 30th – nor have any been passed during the current Lame Duck Session, which is currently scheduled to end on December 17th.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Patrick Murphy (PA-8) introduced a bill to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) Tuesday that could be inserted into a measure already passed in the Senate, a procedural maneuver that would speed up floor consideration in the Senate.  Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has said the vote will come on Wednesday December 15th!

Under the procedure envisioned by Hoyer, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) can bring the measure to the Senate floor with fewer procedural hurdles.

Despite plans for the House to go first, repeal backers in the Senate are still pressing ahead with their own bill.

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) introduced a free-standing repeal bill (S. 4022)  last Thursday that has at least 40 co-sponsors, though Collins remains the only Republican. However, several Senate Republicans, who voted against cloture for the entire Defense Authorization Act because of the abortion provision, are indicating they will vote ‘yes’ on the stand alone bill to repeal DADT.  Reid is paving the way in the Senate by filing a motion today that would bypass the typical committee process.

Gen. James F. Amos, the Marine Corps commandant told reporters at the Pentagon today, “When your life hangs on a line, on the intuitive behavior of the young man … who sits to your right and your left, you don’t want anything distracting you, mistakes and inattention or distractions cost marines’ lives.”

NOTE: According to the Pentagon’s own report issued on November 30 to Congress, 67 percent of Marines and nearly 58 percent of Army soldiers in combat units say repeal of the DADT policy would have negative consequences on unit cohesion in the field or at sea.

NOTE: A review of all the sexual assault cases for Fiscal Year 2009 reveals over eight percent (8.2%) of all military sexual assault cases were homosexual in nature. This suggests that homosexuals in the military are about three times more likely to commit sexual assaults than heterosexuals are, relative to their numbers.

Action Step

Contact your member of the House by clicking here and Senator Arlen Specter and Senator Bob Casey, Jr. by clicking here.   Ask your Congressmen and Senators Specter and Casey to vote ‘no’ on the bill to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.  Also, ask them two questions:  A.) Did you personally read the ENTIRE Pentagon report released on November 30th?  B.)  Have you personally read the “case synopses” of all 1,643 reports of sexual assault reported by the four branches of the military for Fiscal Year 2009?  If they have not personally read these documents, they have no right to vote on allowing open homosexuals in the military.  Let them know!
