Is Your School Allowing the Homosexuality-Affirming Day of Silence?

Details

The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is the brain child behind the Day of Silence.  This year it will be held in most schools on April 27th.  This is a time when students, and even some teachers, take a vow of silence, claiming the LGBT is the most bullied, marginalized and maligned “minority” in the country.  Note the word “minority.”  By using this terminology, they are claiming people are born lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and have no choice but to act on those feelings.

This is supposed to be student-led, but in reality GLSEN is the one behind it by providing ideas, promotional materials, and other resources.  The question is whether your school is allowing students and/or teachers to remain silent during instructional time.  Should a taxpayer-funded school day be used in this way?

The AFA of PA is once again part of the Day of Silence Walkout Coalition and here’s the game plan.

Action Steps

1.) Listen to the interview with Linda Harvey, President of Mission America.

2.) Call your child’s school.  Do not ask them if they are sponsoring the Day of Silence, but ask them if administrators or teachers will allow students to remain silent during instructional time on this day.  If students will be permitted to remain silent, parents can express their opposition most effectively by holding their children out of school on the Day of Silence and sending letters of explanation to their administrators, their children’s teachers, and all school board members. One reason this is effective is that most school districts lose money for each student absence.    Go here  for more information and a sample call-out letter.  Remember this can also take place in private schools!
