He Thinks Parents Are Brainwashed, But Obama Wants Him as Secretary of Education!
Details
US Department of Education (USDOE) Secretary Arne Duncan is gone, but there’s still not good news coming from that federal department! President Obama has nominated the man who has been serving as acting secretary since Duncan’s departure the end of 2015, John King, Jr. He has been with the US DOE since 2014, after leading New York’s state education department for three years. His tenure there was a disaster!
Dozens of education activists and writers — including Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Diane Ravitch and Jonathan Kozol — wrote a letter urging Congress to reject King’s nomination.
Here are some problems:
- He is an outspoken supporter of national student databases. Even though the new Every Student Succeeds Act includes strong language prohibiting national databases and limiting the federal role in Common Core, King’s past actions have shown his willingness to ignore Congressional intent.
