Blog Post – Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee Stood BoldlyUS Senate Chambers

The Senate worked throughout the day after Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee on Friday demanded the Senate stay in session to vote to defund President Obama’s executive action on immigration.

Senator Ted Cruz’ Point of Order vote on Obama’s executive action came down to defeat with a 22 to 74 vote.

“One month ago President Obama announced unprecedented executive amnesty, in direct conflict with the immigration laws passed by Congress,” Cruz said ahead of the vote. “Tonight both Democrats and Republicans will have the opportunity to show America whether they stand with the president who is defying the will of the voters or with the millions of Americans who want a safe and legal immigration system.”

No PA Senator supported his efforts.

Shortly after the vote on Cruz’ Point of Order, the final vote came – the $1.1T CRomnibus passes with a 56 to 40 vote, with both Senators from PA voting Yea. The measure now goes to President Obama’s desk.

There will be minimal drama next week as Senator Harry Reid is hoping to rubber stamp 24 more Obama nominees with a minimum of 51 votes. Reid wants to confirm several controversial nominees, including Vivek Murthy, Obama’s choice to serve as the next surgeon general; Sarah Saldaña, his pick to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement; and Carolyn Colvin, his selection to lead the Social Security Administration. About a half of the nominees are district court judges! How many of these have been nominated since the November 4th election?   How many confirmation hearings were held??

Do the actions of our House of Representatives and Senate reflect what our Founding Fathers intended. Voting for a $1.1 trillion spending bill and ignoring the actions of a president don’t seem like something they would do!
