Just in time for Christmas! Will the state legislature give us a gift of tax increases this year? The State Senate has already voted to do just that and now the State House will be voting on whether they want to give us the same Christmas “gift.”

Twelve amendments were sent to the states for approval in August of 1789. Of those 12, 10 were quickly ratified. Virginia’s legislature became the last to ratify the amendments on December 15, 1791. This was only fitting as the Virginia Declaration of Rights had greatly influenced James Madison as he worked on writing the Bill of Rights.

After the 2013 announcement by then Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, only ten percent had remained closed to females. Carter’s announcement now means the Army Rangers, Green Berets and Navy Seals must now allow women. Additionally, women will be required to serve in combat units fighting up close and personal.
