Tonight by a vote of 11-0 Lower Merion Township turned a deaf ear to ignore the warnings and the concerns voiced by constituents and chose instead to give special protections to homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders. Again, this afternoon the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide family values group, contacted each commissioner and gave them additional information concerning the ramification of such passage.

Vote on the DREAM Act anticipated in the Senate today. Vote during the lame duck session on the repeal of the 1993 law banning homosexuals in the military seems increasingly unlikely. Senate Democrats are considering rolling all 12 spending bills into one – one vote will cover all 12 bills!

Today’s political climate brings these three issues together. World AIDS Day recognized each December 1st was established by the World Health Organization in 1988. As AIDS is in the spotlight today, we have to realize that any discussion about AIDS must naturally lead to a discussion about lifting the ban on homosexuals in the military. Only the British media is talking about Manning’s homosexuality and the unacceptable risk to morale, good order and discipline he has created.
