Human trafficking is a very serious problem. Sexually oriented businesses are a detriment to any area they move into. However, there are steps residents can take to regulate such businesses. PA courts have said they cannot be banned, but municipalities can pass zoning and licensing ordinances to regulate them.

Schools are opening across Pennsylvania and with it comes the dangers — not necessarily of COVID, but of the easy access to online porn. The US has seen a drastic increase in sex trafficking and child porn since the federal obscenity laws have stopped being enforced. This proliferation of illegal obscenity has negatively impacted individuals, families and entire communities. In essence, it is a public health crisis and fifteen states have officially declared pornography as such. Attorney General William Barr needs to make the enforcement of the federal obscenity laws a top priority.

Now you can have a say and let the FCC know what you think of the rating system. However, the deadline for comment is today and you must use their online form.

Backpage.com is DOWN thanks to a raid by the FBI. Remember they were the only website that did not respond with HR 1865-FOSTA/SESTA was overwhelmingly passed by Congress recently. Backpage continued in the human trafficking business until tonight when they were stopped by federal agents from the US Department of Justice!

HR 1865, the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, overwhelming passed in the US House by a vote of 388 to 25. This bill would amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act which has been misinterpreted by the courts to protect websites which allow classified ads linked to sex trafficking. That was never the intention of the supporters of this section and must be amended.

Courts are misinterpreting Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to allow websites which facilitate sex trafficking not to be held accountable. Worst yet was the First Circuit Court ruling in Doe v. Backpage which held that even if Backpage had participated in the crime of sex trafficking, Section 230 shielded the company from the claims filed by child victims! This misinterpretation must be stopped and Congress has a chance to fix it!

The promoters of porn claim there are no harms, yet increasingly the harms of porn are being exposed. We see increased sexual assault (i.e. child on child assault, teacher on student assault, babies being sexuall assaulted, campus rape culture etc), sex trafficking is on the rise, sexual addictions, etc. etc. We need to become educated on the harms of pornography!
