PA Group Signs onto Doctors Protecting Children Declaration
(Harrisburg) — Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) signed onto the Doctors Protecting Children Declaration, calling for a rethinking of the United States’ medical community’s response to minors who identify as something other than their biological sex. The declaration lays out recent revelations which confirm that our long-time concerns were valid and asks that the science be followed.
The declaration affirms:
Sex is innate and unchanged by drugs or surgeries.
Consideration of the innate differences between male and female is critical for the practice of good medicine and the development of good public policy.
Gender ideology, based on an individual thoughts and feelings described as “gender identity” or “gender expression” ignores the reality of these innate sex differences. This leads to the inaccurate view that children can be born in the wrong body.
Medical decision making should respect biological reality and the dignity of the person by compassionately addressing the whole person.
The Declaration goes on to declare that the vast majority of gender confused children, when allowed to go through natural puberty, will identify as their biological sex. Due to the immature nature of their developing brain, minors cannot give informed consent for puberty blockers, cross sex hormones or surgeries. There have been no long-term studies of drug or surgical interventions.
The Declaration also highlights the 388-page Cass Review, “an independent review of gender identity services for children and young people”, released on April 10, 2024 which exposed flaws in the studies used by those advocating for drug and surgical interventions for gender confused minors. “There is now sufficient research to further demonstrate the failure of the WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health), American Academy of Pediatrics and Endocrine Society protocols.”
“The Declaration has over two dozen footnotes and affirms the AFA of PA’s concerns since the big push for puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and surgeries began for vulnerable children who are confused about their gender. Many issues play into their confusion such as the entertainment media, indoctrination in public schools, books in public libraries, Drag Queen Story Hours and sexual assault name a few. This is a psychological issue and should be treated as such. The AFA of PA is thrilled that this Declaration has been issued,” stated Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
