Yes, It is Evil to Indoctrinate Students That Gay is Okay
(Meadville, PA) — Penncrest School Director David Valesky called the display of pro-LGBTQ books in the Maplewood High School library ‘evil’ and noted that schools should not be brainwashing students into thinking that homosexuality is okay. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group agrees with his assessment: taxpayer-funded schools should not be promoting the idea that some people are born ‘gay’ or that some may be born in the wrong body. No scientific studies support those ideas.
“All students should be provided a safe learning environment and Mr. Valesky’s Facebook post did not create an unsafe environment as some have leveled that accusation against him. The unsafe environment is created when those who do not agree that ‘gay is okay,’ whether student, teacher or school board member, are attacked for voicing a different opinion. Impressionable students, even in high school, should not be led to believe that engaging in homosexual acts is okay, noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
Rather than teach children that ‘gay is okay’, perhaps the school librarian should provide this information . . .
- Researchers recently completed the largest gene study to date and they are confident there is no single ‘gay gene’ and that one will never be found. Many genes they found to be associated with same-sex behavior correlate with personality traits or psychiatric disorders. They also note that environment and life experiences make the largest contribution to same-sex behavior.
- The APA Handbook on Sexuality and Psychology states that biological explanations do not entirely explain sexual orientation, also noting that psychoanalytic contingencies are evident as main effects or in interaction with biological factors. The handbook also notes that childhood sexual abuse can play a factor in same-sex attraction.
. . . or perhaps books about ex-gays or former transgenders. Would the librarian be open to displaying such books to give a different side of the story?
“LGBTQ Pride Month, which is the reason the Maplewood library display was placed, is simply an entire month used to try to convince Americans that homosexuality is safe and normal. The AFA of PA applauds Mr. Valesky’s courage to stand up for what is right and speak up for the truth. If one is truly concerned about someone’s safety, you speak up when you see potential danger and that is exactly what David Valesky did when he responded to the pro-LGBTQ books in the school library. Schools should be about teaching academics and not promoting an unsafe lifestyle. Taxpayers in the Penncrest School District do not expect their hard-earned tax dollars to be used for such propaganda,” concluded Gramley.
