AFA of PA ACTION ALERT
July 20, 2011
Issues (check corresponding number in ‘Details’ and ‘Action’ Sections)
1.) Vote to Allow Homosexuals in the Military Based on a Lie!
2.) Attempt to Overturn DOMA
Details
1.) Early last November a portion of the Executive Summary from the Pentagon Study of our military’s reaction to allowing homosexuals in the military was leaked to the Washington Post. It reported that 70% of the military would not have a problem if “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) was repealed. It was upon that information that the Senate voted to repeal the law banning homosexuals from serving. Then Secretary of Defense Robert Gates asked for an investigation into the leak. That was to have been completed by the end of December 2010; it was not completed until April 8, 2011. The document was ‘buried’ in the Pentagon, but was recently leaked to our friends at the Center for Military Readiness (CMR) by someone concerned with the situation. Turns out that Executive Summary was written in July 2010 before even one member of the military was asked their opinion of homosexuals serving openly in the military! The Department of Defense Inspector General (DOD IG) questioned 96 of the 101 who had access to the draft Pentagon Study asking if they had leaked parts of the document. Each denied under oath their participation in a leak. The only ones not questioned were those in the White House! Additionally, the DOD IG uncovered some very disturbing manipulation of study results such as the 70% reported in the Executive Summary. 2.) On March 16th Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced HR 1116 and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced S 598 . These are bills to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Last night President Obama announced his support of repeal and today hearings on S598 were held.
Action Steps
1.) In a nutshell the repeal of DADT last December was based on a lie and our military was lied to when they were told their opinions counted. Their opinions and concerns (60% of our combat troops say repeal would negatively impact their unit’s effectiveness) were ignored and unless the certification is stopped they will become guinea pigs in this great social experiment! The AFA of PA has sent to each of Pennsylvania’s 19 Congressmen and Senator Bob Casey, Jr. and Senator Pat Toomey a copy of the Inspector General report and asked for immediate hearings into the manipulation of the study results before certification takes place. Please also contact your Congressman and Senators Casey and Toomey and ask for an investigation into this misuse and abuse of our military. Extensive hearings MUST be held before certification of the repeal. NOTE: The repeal will go into effect 60 days after it is certified by President Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Admiral Mike Mullen that there will be no negative impact upon our military by permitting homosexuals to serve openly. All three are pro-homosexual and want the repeal to take place.
2.) This morning the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on S598 the “Respect for Marriage Act”. Neither Senator Casey or Toomey are on that committee, but they need to hear from you! The majority of Pennsylvanians agree that marriage is only between one man and one woman and they expect their Senators to support traditional marriage. (NOTE: the following PA Congressmen are sponsors of HR 1116 – Congressmen Robert Brady, Mike Doyle, and Chaka Fattah. Neither Casey nor Toomey are co-sponsors of S598, but Casey’s track record on this issue is NOT good!)
