Philadelphia Youth Study Center Forced to Affirm Sexually Confused Resident
(Philadelphia) — The first mistake was in February 2008 when a Family Court judge ordered the Philadelphia Youth Study Center (YSC) to give hormone treatments to a young man who wanted to live and dress as a young woman. In addition, they were to call him by the female name by which he had chosen to be called. The Center failed to carry out these orders, additionally overlooking verbal and apparent physical abuse. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide child advocacy group, is appalled that the court system encouraged this young man to continue in his female delusion and that the Philadelphia YSC was ordered to aid in that delusion and now has been ordered to change its policy concerning these sexually confused individuals.
“The physical abuse this young man allegedly endured cannot be justified, however it is apparent he needs desperate help and his cries for help were ignored by both the court system and YSC. According to accounts he was in YSC for one and a half years, yet their website says the typical stay is between six and ten days. This young man, as all the approximate 5,000 who come through the Center annually, had allegedly committed a felony and was a serious danger to the community or a flight risk. The judge and Lambda Legal, who filed a complaint against the Center with the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, ignores that and just concentrates on the tough time this young man endured while at YSC. If they really cared about his well-being, they would get real help for his delusional state and not encourage it,” noted Diane Gramley, President of the AFA of PA.
Lambda Legal brought the complaint using Philadelphia’s Fair Practices Ordinance – the same one homosexual activists are using to try to get the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council evicted from the downtown headquarters they built and have maintained since 1929 on property the 1928 Philadelphia City Council gave them free use of in perpetuity. They are also using the ordinance to prevent the City of Philadelphia from settling with the Scout Council.
In April the Williams Institute, which ‘advances sexual orientation law and public policy, released a study stating that 700,000 adults in the United States identify as transgender. The American Psychological Association still lists it as a disorder.
“A disorder should not be affirmed, but as a result of the complaint filed by this sexually confused young man, the Youth Study Center must now provide to these individuals a single room in the unit that corresponds to who they identify as, the clothing and grooming options they prefer, receive hormone therapy, and be called by their preferred name all on the taxpayers’ dime. As Philadelphia’s only secure youth detention center, the Youth Study Center’s mission apparently is now to affirm mental disorders and not help these kids become productive members of society,” Gramley concluded.
