Pennsylvania Group Backs Attempt to Expose the Southern Poverty Law Center
(Harrisburg) — This afternoon African-American pastors and Christian and Jewish leaders of pro-family groups gathered at the headquarters of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in Montgomery, AL to hold a press conference to expose the lies the SPLC is telling about pro-family organizations in labeling them as ‘hate groups’ because of their stand against the very real homosexual agenda. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), the state affiliate of the Tupelo, MS-based American Family Association (AFA), has been labeled a hate group by homosexual activists in Pennsylvania because of the ‘hate’ label attached to the national office of the AFA.
“The AFA of PA fully supports this effort to expose the Southern Poverty Law Center for its attempts to marginalize traditional values groups by labeling them as ‘hate groups.’ We applaud this effort by Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality and all those involved in this afternoon,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
In December 2010 the AFA of PA signed onto a full page ad in support of several national pro-family groups which had been labeled ‘hate groups’ by the SPLC. These appeared in two Washington, DC newspapers. Within days the AFA of PA received a letter from Richard Cohen, President and CEO of SPLC, trying to validate their listing of these traditional values groups as ‘hate groups.’ However, his letter equated pro-family groups to neo-Nazis who call Jews ‘vermin’ and accused them of the ‘propagation of know falsehoods’ and ‘repeated, groundless name-calling’ – all without documented proof of such accusations. That letter was more hateful than anything the pro-family groups demonized by SPLC have said or written. On January 31, 2011 the AFA of PA responded to the Cohen letter, but has yet to receive a response from the SPLC.
“It continues to be clear that the SPLC has lost its way and is in full support of the efforts to redefine marriage, family and American society as a whole as it supports radical homosexuals and target groups which are trying to preserve the American way. The SPLC needs to reexamine its misguided efforts in attacking pro-family groups and get back to its original efforts of monitoring real hate groups like the KKK and Neo Nazis,” further stated Gramley.
