Local Newspaper Changes Policy and Permits Same-Sex “Engagement” Announcement

Details

The same-sex “engagement” announcement of a male homosexual couple was initially turned down by Lancaster Newspapers because it was not “consistent with prevailing community values.”   The next stop for the homosexual couple was WGAL to get the word out about what they perceived as discriminatory action by the newspaper.  Within days the newspaper had caved to pressure from those demanding they run the announcement.  On June 4th, Harold E. Miller, president and chief executive officer of Lancaster Newspapers Inc., said the policy had now been changed and personally called the ‘couple’ apologizing and asking them to resubmit their announcement.  Read more here.
