Senate Committee Vote on Chuck Hagel Tomorrow

Details

Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), the Senate Armed Services Committee’s chairman, announced this morning the vote would go forward tomorrow just a day after his panel’s top Republican, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), threatened to hold up Hagel’s confirmation. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has also threatened to put a hold on Hagel.

The Tuesday committee vote would allow Hagel to come to the floor as soon as Thursday, ahead of the Senate’s recess next week.

Some concerns with confirming Chuck Hagel; as Secretary of Defense:

1.) he is one of six directors of the “Global Zero US Nuclear Policy Commission”

2.)  on the board of George Soros-funded Ploughshares Fund (contributes to groups that criticize US foreign policy and the military; also contributes to the Connect US Fund which promotes one global government, calls for massive cuts in the US military budget so that money can be spent on “sustainable energy”)

3.)  sits on the board of the main financial backer of a group urging the US to join the UN’s International Criminal Court.

4.)  Supports the UN Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST)

Obviously, he is the wrong man for the job.  More details from Eagle Forum can be found here.

Action Steps

Neither Senators Casey nor Toomey are on the Senate Armed Services Committee, however there are some key Republicans and a couple Democrats on the Committee that you should contact.  Message:  Oppose voting Chuck Hagel out of the Senate Armed Services Committee.  He did not sufficiently answer questions during his confirmation hearings and is not qualified to fulfill the responsibilities of Secretary of Defense.
