Contact Franklin Mayor Baker and Oil City Manager Mark Schroyer
Details
As you may have read in yesterday’s News Herald/Derrick atheists are in an uproar about a bench in Justus Park in Oil City and a Seneca family has contacted Franklin’s mayor complaining about the nativity scene that has been in Bandstand Park for as long as anyone can remember. The Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation was cc’d on the email to the Franklin mayor .
Interesting that the quote on the bench the American Atheists Legal Center is outraged about is actually one very similar to William Penn’s. His quote is “Those who will not be Governed by God will be Ruled by Tyrants,” while the one on the Tyrants Bench is “Men Who Aren’t Governed By God, Will Be Governed By Tyrants.” The bench was part of a display donated to Oil City in 2003 by the VFW.
The AFA of PA has contacted Liberty Counsel about the two situations and will be providing suggestions to both cities.
