AFA of PA ACTION ALERT
November 16, 2010
Issues (check corresponding number in ‘Details’ and ‘Action’ Sections)
1.) Pension Bailout Passes!
2.) Lame Duck Confirmations?
1.) A little before 5:00 p.m. Monday evening HB 2497 – the “Pension Bailout” passed in the State House by a vote of 165 to 31. It now goes to the Governor’s desk for his signature. If this stands, our children and grandchildren will be saddled with paying for our legislators’ fiscal irresponsibility. (note: the “Castle Doctrine” also passed and is headed to the Governor’s desk – he is expected to veto it!)
2.) A weakened Senator Harry Reid may try to push through many controversial nominees during the lame duck session. There are seventeen who are especially bad. They include Chai Feldlbum (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission), Craig Becker (National Labor Relations Board), and Donald Berwick (who was recess appointed to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and now must face a full Senate vote). IMPORTANT: We do know that on Thursday, the lame duck Senate Judiciary is scheduled to vote on 12 Obama judicial nominations, headlined by the infamous, twice stopped, Judge Robert Chatigny for Second Circuit Court of Appeals. You will remember that Chatigny is the judge who, according to Sen. Sessions, committed one of the “most significant abuses of judicial power” by using his judicial position to stop the execution of the infamous roadside strangler. Make sure you listen to this gut wrenching summary of Chatigny’s role in the Roadside Strangler case.
2.) Senator Arlen Specter is on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Send him an e-mail AND call the district office nearest you. Deliver one simple message, “Remember the Roadside Strangler case — vote NO on Chatigny”. Click here for contact information. You may also want to contact the other members of the committee – with the same simple message. Click here for the list.
