As We Said: ‘Presidential Executive Order Not Worth the Paper it Was Written On’
(Harrisburg) – The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide pro-family group, condemns the use of taxpayer dollars to subsidize abortions as has been recently outlined in the Pennsylvania insurance commissioner’s high risk pool plan approved by the federal Department of Health and Human Services. On March 24th as President Obama secretly signed the executive order supposedly preventing the use of federal dollars for abortion, the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), condemned the action as empty and worthless. Fourteen “pro-life Democrats” including Senator Bob Casey, Jr., Congressmen Michael Doyle, Kathy Dahlkemper, and Chris Carney were among the invited witnesses.
“My description of the executive order as simply words void of meaning placed on an empty piece of paper for a feel good effect have proven quite accurate,” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA in response to the recent news.
Pennsylvania will receive $160 million federal dollars to set up the high risk pool plan. The June 28th news release issued by the Department of Insurance very slyly omitted the word ‘abortion’ and used the words “much more” in the list of covered services, but a review of the plan shows that it will subsidize all abortions except those for sex selections.
“As Americans have become more pro-life, politicians who support taxpayer funded abortion walk a perilous line – Casey, Doyle, Dahlkemper, and Carney are all walking that line here in Pennsylvania. How will they respond when confronted by their constituents who do not want their tax dollars used to fund abortions? Three on that list will face voters in November. So-called pro-life Democrats can no longer hide behind a worthless executive order.” Gramley further noted.
