Action Alert – The Gay Day of Silence is No More – It’s Much Worse!

Issue

The Gay Day of Silence is No More – It’s Much Worse!

Details

In the “good ‘ol days”, which never were when it came to the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network or GLSEN, it was simply called the “Day of Silence” to highlight the supposed silence students who identified as gay or lesbian were forced to suffer under.  Students would remain silent during class time and refuse to speak when called upon.  Sometimes the participants even put tape over their mouths and  some schools even allowed teachers to remain silent!  It’s apparent in these taxpayer-funded schools that no learning took place during this day.

GLSEN also is instrumental in providing resources to students on the Day of Silence and even guidance on how students could start a Gay Straight Alliance Club or GSA in their school.  These LGBTQ clubs now go by many other names.

It’s that time of year again – the Gay Day of Silence will be this Friday, April 12th, but now there’s more! GLSEN is now calling it “Day of Silence Rise Up, Take Action”.   This from their website:  “2024 Day of (No) Silence: With more than 800 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced last year, we must Rise Up and Take Action. GLSEN’s Day of NO Silence is a nationally-recognized student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country—and the world— protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.”

Action Steps

What is your taxpayer-funded school doing this Friday, April 12th?  Why don’t you give them a call and find out?  Don’t ask them if they are sponsoring the Day of Silence, because the school will tell you ‘no’.   It is supposed to be student-led, so the school plays no active role in organizing the day.  Your question should be ‘Will you allow students or teachers to remain silent during class time on April 12th or any other day students may declare a day of silence”.

GLSEN used to proudly post the participating schools on their website, until the AFA of PA and others began exposing those schools, now that information is not available.  If you discover that your school is participating, please pass that info onto us.  Thanks!
