The Boy Scouts Have a Major Decision to Make in May

Details

As you know, the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts put off until May a vote on whether to maintain the ban on homosexual leaders and members.  The fourteen hundred members of the National Board will have a say in that decision which would remove the national ban and allow local councils and units to decide for themselves what policy they want to follow. The homosexual lobby group Human Rights Campaign and other homosexual activists have said lifting the national ban is not good enough — any group associated with the Boy Scouts MUST allow open homosexual leaders and members – period!

Homosexual groups are mounting an all-out assault on the Boy Scouts trying to pressure them to lift the ban.  Scouting for Equality has started a petition project encouraging individuals to create a petition on change.org targeting their regional Scout Council or local troop. They claim 261, 645 nationwide have already signed the petitions.

Thus far three regions in Pennsylvania have started a petition demanding the ban be lifted. These will be sent to the regional Scout Executive and other leaders of that council.  The petitions are targeting the Laurel Highlands Scout Council in Allegheny County (894 signatures so far), Cradle of Liberty Scout Council (COLBSA) in Philadelphia (258 signatures) and the Susquehanna Scout Council in Williamsport (103 signatures).   Remember COLBSA is the one the City of Philadelphia is trying to evict from the headquarters they built and have maintained since 1929.   In May 2003, they added “sexual orientation” to  their non-discrimination policy to accommodate the demands of homosexual activists in order to stay in their headquarters.  At that time, the national office threatened to remove their charter, saying all Scout units had to maintain the same policy.  COLBSA backed off and now has a non-discrimination policy that does not include ‘sexual orientation.’   However, two hundred fifty-eight signatures on a petition may be enough to push COLBSA to support lifting the ban.

Action Steps

1.)  Contact the Scout Council nearest you.  Click here to get information on the seventeen Scout Councils in PA.  Deliver this message:  “Do not lift the ban on homosexual leaders and members.  The Scouts already have a problem with molesters;  changing the policy will place the young men that have been placed in your charge at even greater risk.   The mission of the Boy Scouts of America will be undermined as the BSA is “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes.” The Scout Oath will be thrown aside as the “morally straight” component is replaced with moral relativism.”

2.)  Sign our petition which will be sent to the national office of the Boy Scouts.

3.)  Please forward this alert to others who are concerned about the Boy Scouts.
