Montgomery County Register of Wills Wants to Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses
Details
The Montgomery County Register of Wills, D. Bruce Hanes, has announced his willingness to break the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. He says he wants to come down “on the right side of history and the law.” Seems like obeying the law would be coming down on the right side of the law and the thousands of years of history defining marriage as between male and female seems like the right side of history!
The Register of Wills is an elected row officer. He is elected to uphold the law, but Mr. Hanes seems to be following the lead of Attorney General Kathleen Kane who has declared she will not fulfill her duties as an elected official of the Commonwealth and defend a law she doesn’t like — our Defense of Marriage Act!
