Issue
Another Chance to Repeal Obamacare
Details
US Senators left Washington, DC yesterday and will not return until Monday . . . and Mitch McConnell has not scheduled a vote on the bill that has been introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), which would repeal several portions of Obamacare. He said he wants a guaranteed 50 votes before placing the bill on the schedule for a floor vote! The deadline to use the budget reconciliation bill – which only requires 51 votes to pass – is September 30th and they are quickly running out of time.
The bill is not perfect, but according to former Senator Rick Santorum, “No. 1: It cuts taxes. No. 2: It cuts spending. No. 3: It reduces the deficit. No. 4: It applies the Tenth Amendment and gets the money out of Washington and sends it to the states.”
According to the Family Research Council the bill “restores the principle of the Hyde Amendment that abortion is not health care and should not be subsidized” and would defund the “lion’s share of federal funding for Planned Parenthood.”
The Graham/Cassidy bill also repeals Obamacare’s individual and employer mandate penalties and replaces Obamacare with block grants to states to create state programs to provide health insurance. These block grants will NOT subsidize abortion.
