Bill to Legalize Same-sex “Marriage” Introduced in State House
Details
Last Thursday a bill to legalize same-sex “marriage” was introduced in the State House by open homosexual State Representative Brian Sims (D-182) and Rep. Steve McCarter (D-154). The bill was modeled after Senator Daylin Leach’s (D-17) SB 719 which was introduced in March. The Sims/McCarter bill is HB 1686. The text of the bill is not available, therefore the list of co-sponsors of the bill is not available to the public. During a news conference last week introducing the bill, it was announced there were 31 co-sponsors. The AFA of PA knows these have signed on: Brendan Boyle, Kevin Boyle, Tim Briggs, James Clay, Mary Jo Daley, Madeleine Dean, Kevin Haggerty, Patty Kim, Stephen Kinsey, Steve McCarter, Phyllis Mundy, Mike O’Brien, Mark Painter, Chris Ross (the only Republican), Mark Rozzi, Steve Samuelson, Steve Santarsiero, Brian Sims, W. Curtis Thomas. Representative Sims has announced he expects a second Republican to sign on — Mike Fleck who announced he is ‘gay’ back in December.
During last week’s news conference Representative Sims said, “Republicans in the country are politically aware on what is riding on them. They aren’t the Republicans of 1995. With this bill, we give them the opportunity to distance themselves from the extremely hateful far-right conservatives.”
