Dems Need Ten Republicans to Pass Misnamed Bill . . .

Details

. . . the question is will they get them?  Will Senator Pat Toomey be one of them to vote ‘yea’ on misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act”?  Currently federal law (Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA) states marriage is only between one man and one woman and this has caused Democrats “concern” that the US Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell decision which forced same-sex “marriage” on all 50 states will be overturned even as Roe was.

Even though the Defense of Marriage Act passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, we live in a different world today!  Last week the House passed The “Respect for Marriage Act” (HR 8404) by a vote of 267 to 157 with 47 Republicans joining all the Democrats.  PA Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1), Dan Meuser (PA-9) and Scott Perry (PA-10) were among the forty-seven!

When the US Supreme Court forced same-sex “marriage” on the nation in 2015, Republicans expressed outrage, but, as evidenced by the House vote, they seem to be far less likely to stand against the redefinition of marriage and this effort to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act and the specific laws of 31 states (including PA’s) which define marriage as only between one man and one woman.

Action Steps

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is rushing the “Respect for Marriage Act” forward and all he needs is ten Republicans to join all 50 Democrats to advance the bill for a full vote on the floor of the Senate.

Let Senator Pat Toomey and Senator Bob Casey, Jr. (Yes, he will probably vote ‘yea’, but he still needs to hear from his constituents.) know that you expect them to vote to really respect marriage, which means a “NO” vote on HR 8404 – the misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act”.
